A Rat Standard Coordinate System for use in Cognitive Studies

 Jonathan Nissanov

Abstract:
Intersubject comparison in cognitive studies on humans is simplified when functional maps are transformed to Talairach space. The aim of our Center is to offer a similar tool for studies on nonhuman vertebrates. Reported here is the development of a R at S tandard C oordinate S ystem (RSCS). It consists of a 3D atlas constructed from Nissl stained sectional material--a cut-away view of which is shown below--as well as alignment routines. Sectional material, such as autoradiograms from a 2-deoxyglucose study, can be mapped into the RSCS and then compared using image arithmetic. (Supported by NIH P41-RR01638).
