Abstract:
I will discuss research addressed to a particular meaning of
a lexically ambiguous word. The evidence for both the enhanced
processing of words related to the selected meaning and the
suppression or inhibition of processing for words related to the
non-selected meaning will be addressed. Studies examined will
include studies of priming in word naming, lexical decision,
word-association and relatedness decision. A focus of the
discussion will be on the locus of the effect, whether at the level
of the individual homograph or at a more general lexical
level.
