Abstract:
Much of the most exciting recent scientific work on
consciousness has come from the study of vision. Visual
consciousness is many ways the easiest aspect of consciousness to
study: it is ubiquitous, highly structured, it has properties
that are easy to articulate, it is relatively easy to monitor,
and we have a reasonably good understanding of its basis in the
brain. The fields of neurophysiology, neuropsychology, and
cognitive psychology have all contributed to the recent explosion
of work on visual consciousness.
