Abstract:
Abstract: One of the earliest components of the evoked
response to a visual stimulus is the P1. For a foveal or bilateral
stimulus this component appears as a bilateral activation in
posterior parietal areas. For a unilateral stimulus, the activation
occurs first in contralateral posterior parietal regions, followed
approximately 40 msec later by a broader, stronger actiavtion in
ipsilateral posterior pariteal regions. This study attempts to
quantify those conditions in which the P1 is a unitary component
and those conditions in which the P1 is comprised of dual
components or phases. It is hypothesized that the componentry
within this timeframe of 80 to 140 msec post stimulus is
indicative, at least in part, of interhemispheric communication and
that the nature of this communication changes with the laterality
and eccentricity of the visual stimulus.
