Medial Temporal Lobe Function and Human Memory

Abstract

The hippocampus and anatomically related structures in the medial temporal lobe support the capacity for conscious recollection (declarative memory). This chapter considers a number of topics that have been prominent in recent discussions of medial temporal lobe function: visual perception, working memory, habit learning, recollection and familiarity, path integration, remote memory, and conscious awareness.
