There are many potential advantages to measuring the benefit obtained from cochlear implants. These include:

  • • Determining selection criteria

  • • Setting the cochlear implant: selecting and modifying programming options

  • • Monitoring performance

  • The most important reason for the evaluation of cochlear implants is in the selection criteria process. Specifically, speech perception tests are critical to determine whether a hearing aid user might do better with a cochlear implant. Here we focus on this subject and review some of the tests used in evaluation.
